STEM doesn't have to feel intimidating. It's a beautifully logical language waiting to be understood.

I work with GCSE, A-Level and university students who want to build confidence through clear thinking and real understanding.

Specialist in University, A-Level & GCSE Mathematics & Sciences

I help students move from school-level basics to advanced university work, with clear and calm support along the way.

Who I Help

GCSE & A-Level

School students

Maths, physics and further maths across AQA, Edexcel, OCR and CIE.

With regular lessons, many students improve by one to three grades within a term. Several have gone on to Cambridge, UCL and Imperial.

University & Adult Learners

University and adult learners

Calculus, linear algebra, mechanics, statistics and engineering modules.

For resits, mid-term catch-up, or ongoing module support. I work at your pace and focus on the topics you find hardest.

Fast-Track & Resits

Resits and intensive courses

Focused preparation for resit and private candidates.

I can work through a full syllabus in a shorter block of lessons. Weekday daytime slots are usually reserved for university and fast-track A-Level students.

About Me

Hi, I'm Dr Xin. I'm a private Maths & Science tutor with nearly seven years of experience, teaching from 11+ and GCSE through to A-Level and university.

My background is in Materials Science & Engineering, and I completed my PhD at the University of Manchester. As well as GCSE and A-Level teaching, I regularly teach university-level mathematics, including calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics, mechanics, optimisation and mathematical modelling.

Over the years I've realised that many students don't lack ability or interest. Often they simply haven't been shown mathematics in a way that feels logical, intuitive and approachable. My goal isn't only to improve grades, but to help students build confidence, feel less anxious about problem solving, and think through problems step by step.

How I Teach

A large part of my teaching is about finding exactly where a student's understanding starts to break down. The problem is often not "difficulty with maths", but specific gaps in reasoning, algebraic fluency, reading questions carefully, or exam technique that build up over time.

In lessons I break problems down step by step and encourage students to explain their thinking aloud. Gaps show up early that way, and confidence grows over time. Rather than repetitive drilling, I help students spot patterns, understand why methods work, and tackle unfamiliar problems on their own. For GCSE and A-Level students, I also focus on exam technique and working under pressure.

Between lessons I provide structured notes, worksheets, homework and feedback, tailored to each student's level and learning style. I want lessons to feel supportive, not stressful. Mathematics is a logical language, and it can be understood step by step.
